Scott Bell was born in 1966 and introduced to photography as a young
boy by his father who gave him his first camera and shared with him a
love and knowledge of the medium. Scott received formal
training and
graduated from The Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara,
California, in 1992. During the course of his study there, he
was
given the honor of a one-man show
which included his
entire portfolio works. He has distinguished himself as a
photographer
in the ranching world, winning top awards in the 1991 and 1992 Arizona
Cattleman's Convention photography exhibit in
Prescott, Arizona.
"For
the past ten years, I have been a cattle rancher at the ZZ Cattle
Corporation in Nogales, Arizona. This has been a family owned
working
cattle ranch since 1938. I have lived, worked, photographed
and
experienced cattle ranching near the Mexican border. The
cowboys I
work with are older, wiser and much more experienced than I
am. The
cowboys have a rich knowledge of the ranching life and of the natural
world in general. I feel honored to have had them accept me
and my
camera into their realm. I hope this collection of
photographs
adequately expresses the deep respect I have for the individuals and
traditions that are part of the cattle ranching experience in Southern
Arizona."
